Town Council Costs – The Facts Behind the Leaflet
You may have seen these figures in our recent leaflet. They often surprise people – and understandably so. Rather than ask you to take our word for it, we’ve published the full data so you can check everything yourself.
The example below highlights towns in Somerset – a nearby area with similar communities, and one that has also been run by the Liberal Democrats. That makes it a fair and relevant comparison when considering what could happen locally.
| Parish / Town Council | Precept Increase | Annual Precept Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Bridgwater | 418% | £411.06 |
| Yeovil Town | 183% | £347.33 |
| Taunton Town | 227% | £325.55 |
| Wellington | 280% | £211.88 |
If you’d like to dig deeper, you can download the full dataset here. It includes the top 10 town and parish councils ranked by their 2026/27 total precept, along with the Band D parish charge and how much it has increased over the past five financial years.
